Objectives

BOOST is a registered charity working in partnership with The Duchess's Community High School in Alnwick, Northumberland. Our mission is to increase opportunities for young people by giving them access to services and experiences that are not otherwise available in our rural community.

We do this by providing activities which:

  • Remove barriers to learning
  • Provide new learning opportunities
  • Enhance the learning environment

Everything we do is in addition to the school's statutory responsibilities but by providing activities in school and during the school day we can make them accessible to 1400 young people living in England's most rural county.

Activities

Activities we deliver include:

  • Grab n Go breakfast boost - a healthy breakfast snack available to all students (particular benefitting those whose journey to school starts early in the morning and those who are living in financial difficulties)
  • Hardship fund - ensuring all young people have access to out of school experiences
  • Sexual health advice - providing discreet specialist advice for young people in need of sexual health support (e.g. exploring gender identity, concerned about sexually transmitted infection, concerned about contraception or pregnancy, victim of sexual abuse, risky behaviours)
  • Cultural experiences - bringing high quality experiences into school which are not normally available in our rural community
  • Lunch time clubs - providing social experiences for young people at lunchtimes
  • Pride Club - championing the LGBTQ+ community in our school
