We are a christian based therapeutic horticultural facility, based on the corner of a large arable farm, focused on adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities. We help people who are excluded from mainstream work on account of a learning disability to experience the joy of meaningful work in a safe and supportive environment in a beautiful rural setting. We are volunteer led and have grown in size organically over the past 16 years.
We encourage our members (as we call them) to participate in a wide range of jobs on site - horticulture, animal husbandry, chicken keeping for egg production, cookery, crafts, woodwork and donkey walking. All activities are undertaken together with others, mainly volunteers, so there is plenty of scope for socialisation. Most people attend the project for months and years, not days and weeks, so relationships have time to grow and develop. Our aim is to make the world of everyone who attends larger by increasing confidence and skills through gently expanding the work carried out on site. In time this can mean people can then access paid work, but regardless of that, their sense of self worth and well being has been enhanced regardless, and their families and carers have enjoyed some respite.
