Objectives

  • BCAT's Mission Statement is to provide a service of Arts Therapies (Art, Dance Movement, Drama, Music and Play therapies) to clients of all ages with special needs.
  • BCAT provides help and support for education, training and research in the arts therapies.
  • BCAT provides a link between arts therapies and arts for health and well-being services.

Activities

BCAT has a register of 23 qualified arts therapists, who are self employed and available to provide services to those clients who are referred for arts therapies programmes. Sessions may take place either at the BCAT premises, or at the clients' locations, according to individual needs. Initial assessments lead to regular attendance of the clients at sessions. Reports and reviews are held regularly for each client, with appropriate recommendations for further intervention or activities, according to clients' needs.

BCAT holds regular seminars, experiential courses and larger conferences within the field of arts therapies. We have a register of over 250 people interested in arts therapies - possibly hoping to train as a therapist in the future - on our Arts Therapies Working Group. Members of this group meet regularly to discuss topics of interest, use the BCAT library and undertake work placements at varying locations.

BCAT has a Director, Project Manager, Professional Fund-Raiser from Charitable Trusts and Board of Trustees (3) and Management who provide administration and governance for the charity. Fund-raising events are held from time to time, together with general administration of the charity.
