BIGKID is on a mission to end youth violence and social exclusion in London.
We are a multi-award-winning youth and community charity for young people at risk of social exclusion and youth violence. We are experts in youth engagement and strongly believe that behind every kid is something BIG. We equip young people to take control of their lives, find, develop and act on their own potential. We do this by running community engagement, leadership and mentoring programmes across some of London’s most deprived boroughs.
We target hard to reach young people, engaging those who many have given up on. We exist to create opportunities for these young people; to play sport, make friends, improve their leadership skills and make positive life changes in a safe, family environment that is easily accessible.
The young people we work with are incredibly talented and have a potential that is neglected by the wider community due to their background, behaviour or self-belief. We aim to recognise that potential and teach them the skills needed to channel this energy into more positive activities.
Community
BIGKID runs various sport sessions (American Flag Football, Football, Basketball, Tennis), youth club nights, creative arts workshops, as well as trips, excursions and residentials for young people in some of London’s most deprived areas.
Schools
Our Breaking Barriers Programme works with young people at imminent risk of school exclusion. Our 12-week course aims to re-engage young people with their education by exploring vital leadership principles.
Mentoring
We offer traditional mentoring for our young people as well as deliver peer mentoring sessions in schools in conjunction with our Breaking Barriers Programme.
Dexters
BIGKID has recently taken over the management of Dexters Adventure Playground in Brixton where we run a number of varied programmes for the community from gardening to anime club and everything in between! We are currently working on plans to redevelop the site so that we can better serve the local community.
