Bicester Green is a not for profit independent social enterprise led by the community, established in June 2013. We are a place for sharing skills, inviting those with knowledge of repairing bikes, furniture and electrical items to share their skills with those who would benefit from learning. We host volunteers, sell our wares, offer repair services and deliver projects such as a town-wide bike loan scheme and a series of training sessions as well as events for the wider public.
Our primary goal is to save items from landfill by repairing or up cycling and offering the refurbished goods for sale at a reasonable price to the local community or providing a repair service. Since opening, Bicester Green has successfully diverted 2.2 tonnes of bicycles, 2.4 of furniture and 1.75 of electrical items from landfill back into people’s homes.
Our second objective is to benefit and up-skill the local Bicester community. Bicester Green attracts volunteers across a wide age group and skills set to their workshop. By teaching innovation and supporting their development the volunteers engage in the repair of three primary waste streams – Bikes, Furniture and Electrical Items. The skills they develop as volunteers help them to grow in confidence, increase their employability, promote sustainable living practices and give them a sense of belonging to something really worthwhile by giving back and providing a valuable service to their local community.
We also deliver a programme of educational activities for Bicester residents and provide valuable support to other local community organisations and groups.
