Objectives

Being There is a Greater Manchester based charity offering emotional support and practical assistance to people living with cancer and other life-limiting illness, their carers and families. Volunteers are vital to the Being There operation helping to provide a range of tailored local services such as befriending, respite sitting, listening to concerns, support for hospital appointments and 'drop ins'. Being There volunteers are recruited, trained and managed by professional staff based in offices across Greater Manchester, together providing a cost effective, quality service.

Activities

  • One-to-one emotional support
  • Practical support such as shopping
  • Respite sitting allowing carers time to themselves
  • Twice monthly support groups in the five areas we operate
  • Transport support for hospital appointments
  • Social activities
