Objectives

Bath Philharmonia is one of the most exciting orchestras to have emerged in the UK over the last 20 years. Our vision is make high quality orchestral music accessible to our communities in the South West. We do this by programming a diverse range of concerts and events that reflect our 21st century demands and needs. In addition to concert performances, Bath Philharmonia’s Creative Learning Team creates original music with extraordinary people. Our creative composition workshops in schools and festivals enable pupils who may not have had the opportunity to play an instrument before to make and perform their own music inspired by core orchestral repertoire. Further, we enable young people who are often excluded from music-making activities to create and perform new music that reflects on their own experience.

Activities

Bath Philharmonia performed orchestral music to nearly 6000 people in its 16/17 Season as well as reaching many more through broadcasts and recordings. The concerts range from core chamber orchestral repertoire in small intimate settings to full symphonic programmes in Bath’s largest venue, The Forum. Our programmes are designed to make orchestral music accessible to the whole community from classical music aficionados to children experience their first live music event.

Bath Philharmonia’s Creative Learning Team creates original music with extraordinary people. Bath Phil Creative Learning delivered 6 distinct projects in 2016/17 with a total of 304 participants taking part in 25 days of delivery and giving 7 performances to a total audience number of 1650 people. Our creative composition workshops in schools and festivals enable pupils who may not have had the opportunity to play an instrument before to make and perform their own music inspired by core orchestral repertoire.

Further, Bath Philharmonia is the only professional orchestra delivering a year-round programme of music-making with Young Carers. We enable young people who are often excluded from music-making activities to perform new music that reflects on their experience of being a Young Carer on a professional platform.
