Objectives

We accompany elderly, vulnerable people to GP and hospital appointments where there is no family or friend around or able to take them. We stay with them while they wait for their appointment and take them home afterwards. We also take people to social clubs and to visit family and friends so reducing their loneliness and we also provide befrienders to visit lonely people. Easy access to medical advice and simple treatments is essential for older people so conditions are diagnosed in good time. Many of us enjoy mobility and we restore this for people without family and friends.  Most of our clients are over 80 and cannot easily use public transport.

Activities

Our co-ordinators take telephone calls Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm from clients and allocate their request to suitable drivers. Similarly our Befriending Co-ordinator manages the befriender/client relationship. We have 50 drivers and 50 befrienders. We brief drivers on best practice and hold advice sessions for befrienders on matters such as recognising dementia and advising on nutrition. We have around 500 clients.  Trustees manage activities and raise funds to ensure BNC can serve its clients.
