The Basingstoke Canal Society helped restore a wonderful 32 mile canal 30 years ago. With severe council budget cuts the challenge now is to protect the Canal for future generations by involving the local community, raising funds and investing in projects that help everyone enjoy this fantastic local amenity
We aim to KEEP THE CANAL ALIVE BY:
- promoting the future of the canal
- protecting the environment
- providing community leisure activities
- preserving our heritage
We have over 250 volunteers with roles including:
- working parties maintaining towpath and improving facilities
- run two trip boats (10,000 passengers in 2019)
- 70 ‘Lengthsmen’ regularly walking the Canal to check all ‘ok’
- Marketing, Fundraising, Project Planning Team, etc
- teams liaising with local councils to help maximum local opportunities
- main Committee (themselves volunteers) overviewing and leading
