Objectives

Basingstoke and Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation was established in 1992 to provide support to local people who had suffered a cardiac condition.  We provide cardiac rehabilitation for those who have been hospitalised after a cardiac event, providing exercise for life. We also run a primary prevention programme, ‘Staywell’, through GP referral.  As specialists in our field, we provide an exercise environment that is safe, secure, unintimidating and friendly. We deliver exercise sessions to more than 900 people per year and our clients have an average age of 72.

Activities

At our purpose-built centre we provide:

  • Continuing exercise sessions post cardiac event, open to anyone referred to us by a health professional.
  • Core strength sessions for the more-frail client
  • Medical examination and testing room equipped with treadmill, exercise bike and an ECG allowing us to establish a safe exercising level for heart patients.
  • Defibrillator on site and all staff are fully trained in resuscitation and use of the defibrillator.
  • Qualified British Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (BACPR) fitness instructors.
  • An NHS outpatient clinic for patients recently discharged from Hospital.
