About Barts Charity
Barts Charity is an endowed charity that aims to bring improvement and innovation to NHS healthcare in London. Our funding pays for ground-breaking medical research, state-of-the-art hospital equipment and innovative healthcare projects which the NHS could not otherwise afford.
We work with Barts Health NHS Trust (comprising St Bartholomew’s, The Royal London, Mile End, Whipps Cross, Newham and the Nightingale London Hospitals) to fund projects providing life-saving patient care and well-being support for staff.
We also fund medical research undertaken at the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, part of Queen Mary University London, supporting medical breakthroughs in a wide range areas including cardiology, trauma, HIV and COVID.
Our grants total approx. £30m per year, which makes us a nationally significant healthcare funder. Recent funding awards include:
£2.9 million to establish the Barts Orthopaedic Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence, to improve care for people around the world who suffer with conditions affecting their bones, joints and muscles.
Provision of new technology in the neonatal ward to connect parents with their babies when they're unable to visit.
