Barnet Furniture Centre (BFC) is a re-use centre and registered charity that brings multiple benefits to the community and environment. The main aims of the centre are to help families on low income to furnish their homes and to divert furniture away from landfill.
BFC operates a voucher scheme with local housing authorities. This allows clients who are referred over to the Centre the opportunity to purchase household furniture, appliance, electricals and bric-a-brac for their new home. Some of the clients we help may have been previously homeless, placed in an emergency or temporary accommodation, seeking refuge in the UK or just on a low income.
Without BFC operating in Barnet, A staggering 850+ tonnes would have ended up in land-fill. The charity has a huge impact on the local environment; essentially we have saved over 1200, 3 bedroom houses contents' ending up in the skip!
For anyone receiving benefits from their local council; if you bring proof of this along with you to the Centre; you will receive a discount on the already low-cost furniture items.
To find out more about the project, please visit our facebook page, website or even better; pop into the Centre to have a look around and meet the team!
BFC offer a free collection service in and around the Borough of Barnet and also offer free house clearances too!
Here at BFC, we operate a flexible approach to volunteering! We appreciate that not all volunteers can commit to a certain day each week or a certain amount of hours, this may be because life is too hectic and you simply don't have the time, work commitments or maybe you have been out of work for a considerable amount of time and need some help getting your routine back in swing; that's why we let the volunteers choose the hours that suit them.
BFC reuse, recycle, repair, restore, revive and resell!
