Barefoot and Free gift unforgettable staycations to families with neurodivergent children or children affected by trauma and who are also in financial need. Being in financial need makes their lives even more challenging. Moreover, those in such need are almost certainly less able to afford a short break or holiday that the rest of us can usually take for granted and which would give them an opportunity for respite and to rebuild their resilience. Something the young people and their families/carers also need more than the general populace, so they are doubly disadvantaged.
We fund staycations within stunning surrounding, away from the hustle and bustle of life, in woodland retreats or seaside getaways.
The impact this has for our families is huge - a rest, a change of scenery, the leaving behind the demands and challenges faced by our children and their families is invaluable and allows them to continue on on their return.
We provide, safe comfortable accommodation in a woodland or seaside setting, with activities at the woodland such as nature trails, private rowing boats on a huge lake, kayaks, paddle boats, and access to onsite wildlife. We fund the whole staycation so financial barriers are taken away. We hire accommodation that is quiet and on sites with less public traffic (eg a site with only 8 lodges) this really supports our neurodivergent children and those affected by trauma such as PTSD, Greif, Emotional school based avoidance, it's less busy reduces noise and crowding,
