Objectives

Our focus at Balanced Wheel is helping people who have experienced grief and loss find a balanced state of well-being.

  • Bereaved people make greater use of healthcare services including GP services, mental health services, acute and psychiatric hospitals, and consumption of medicines.
  • Pre-Covid, In Scotland, there is evidence that shows that the death of a spouse is associated with increased mortality and also with longer hospital stays, costing £20 million each year (this would be eight times higher in England)
  • In the workplace, impacts include sickness absence, morale, productivity and retention.

We also know that 55% of bereaved people do not accept help. We intend to make communities grief sensitive and friendly.

Activities

We provide Information, Listening and social support services. We also equip their support network with the skills and tools needed to support someone bereaved.
