Objectives

Audio Description (AD) is a commentary for people who are blind or visually impaired. It enables the listener to experience theatre, screen, exhibitions and sports through descriptive language.

The Audio Description Association (ADA) exists to improve the experience of blind and partially sighted attenders at cultural and leisure activities by supporting provision of audio description services, in particular raising standards of provision through accredited training.

Activities

We are a membership organisation made up primarily of audio describers who wish to achieve the best standards in their work, alongside corporate members (theatres, museums and broadcasters) and visually impaired audio description users. We currently offer networking and professional development sessions and, having historically delivered training ourselves we are currently working on a set of updated audio description standards which will allow us to accredit and signpost training courses. We are setting up an audio description user group through which we intend to train assessors of AD.
