Objectives

“The foodbank was there when we really needed it, it was an absolute lifeline.”

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. Atherton & Leigh Foodbank are a charity working with Trussell Trust based on the East side of Wigan. Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area. The Foodbank has been successfully working to assist people in food crisis situations for almost 11 years.

Activities

Through a network of local referral partners we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in hardship. We offer a warm welcome, listening ear and signposting support to everyone visiting the food bank. We also offer a Financial Inclusion Service to clients who are currently using this Foodbank. The aim is to maximise their income so that the clients have more disposable income and have the dignity of buying their own food.
