Objectives

Atal y Fro is the leading Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse, and Sexual Violence (VAWDASV) service in the Vale of Glamorgan and delivers preventative services across South East Wales.

Our Vision: The elimination of Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence, enabling families and individuals to live without fear in a world where relationships are supportive and healthy.

Our Mission: To deliver crisis, mitigation, and prevention services to those affected by Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence in Wales.

It is estimated that over 10,500 women and 5,700 men in the Vale of Glamorgan are or have been a victim of domestic abuse since the age of 16.  Of those numbers, over 9,200 women and 4,300 men have been abused by a current or ex-partner (gender of the perpetrator not recorded but statistically the majority will be male).  Women are five times as likely to be sexually assaulted by a current or ex-partner as men.

Activities

Services we deliver include:

  • Emergency refuge accommodation to women and their children, if any

  • Group programmes including Journey beyond Abuse, and the Recovery Toolkit aimed at supporting survivors of domestic abuse
  • Preventative groups programmes aimed at adult and adolescents who use violence and abuse
