The Association of Clinical Scientists (ACS) has the principal function of assessing candidates from a wide range of clinical science disciplines who seek to become State Registered Clinical Scientists. The ultimate beneficiaries of this process is the patients that are treated within the NHS (or less commonly the private sector).
A robust and well developed process of assessment is carried out where candidates submit a portfolio of experience and qualifications and this is assessed against specific competences by experienced assessors. These assessors are nominated by Professional Bodies. There is a viva examination.
The Lay Member will join the Board of ACS and provide a service users’ viewpoint on our activities.
