Assemble do work which shapes and influences the physical form and cultural use of the built environment. We are working for a more environmentally responsible, socially inclusive and culturally accessible built environment at a variety of scales. We do this through designing buildings, setting up (and providing long term support to) social enterprises, teaching and education. We have designed a number of projects which have been internationally recognised for their community benefit, social ambition and design quality including; a long-term partnership with a Community Land Trust in Granby, Liverpool; setting up and supporting a new charity that delivers adventure play space for children in East Dalmarnock, Glasgow; and establishing and acting in a board role for a new type of publically accessible affordable workspace.
We are a values-driven organisation, set up as an LLP and run in a co-operative and non-hierarchical structure. We are an LLP because within the architecture and construction sector, we believe that we have greater capacity to pursue change with a social impact as a business, not a charity or social enterprise, but recognise the need for a trust structure to increase our accountability in relation to our social mission. We have a subsidiary which is registered as a CIC.
We design buildings, organisations and work with clients and communities to make a better, more equitable and more sustainable built environment. We also pursue an alternative, co-operative mode of practice which is distinct from the traditional operating model for architecture practices, which we see as diminishing in relevance and incapable of contributing to positive change in society and the environment.
