We are committed to working with people in a socially deprived area creating opportunity for those who suffer social isolation, poverty or who have mental health issues.
We achieve this by a variety of methods, we run a community centre that provides a safe and supportive social environment. We run activities which encourages participation and helps people to grow in confidence and realise that actually they are indeed capable and valued and we also work closely with other organisations including the NHS at providing a welcoming environment for those who are very socially isolated to make those initial steps out of their front door.
We already in only nine weeks of operation have received testimonies from Community Psychiatric Nurses, NHS Early Intervention Unit and a SENCO from a Special Needs School for people we have already supported and helped.
We are working closely also with ASDA and Derby City Council who both are showing a lot of support for our project.
We do the following:-
- Community Cafe and Garden to provide a sanctuary in a social setting and voluntary opportunity.
- Mental Health Support Services ran currently by Blue Sky Derby and we also work closely with Derby Adult Learning Services to provide voluntary opportunities.
- Range of activities in the centre including Akidio, MMA, Yoga and Fitness each of which provide a physical benefit as well as the social and psychological benefits.
- We run a Wrestling Academy, Wrestling is superb for trust, teamwork, confidence building etc all of which aid immensely with mental health issue as well as the clear physical benefits.
- We also run Wrestling shows which provide a public platform for those to perform on as well as an income for the centre.
