Objectives

AMS is an impartial and independent voluntary service which provide free mediation through trained volunteers, to the community of The Borough of Ashford Kent. Our beneficiaries include anyone who is in conflict or dispute with another person or persons. Examples of who we typically help include parent aiming to come to an agreement on child access without going to court; conflicts and disputes within families, between neighbours and across local communities. Conflicts in the very places that we expect to feel safe and secure create great distress, anxiety and mental health issues  What we do as a service matters because we enable individuals to take responsibility for, and resolve issues which deeply affect their wellbeing and can lead to long term metal health issues, homelessness, crime.

Individuals can self refer, however we also work closely with sister agencys and community services such as the Police, Social Services and Schools who refer cases to us for resolution thus saving Police intervention or Social Service resourses,

Activities

  • Our organisation recruits and trains volunteers to become skilled mediators who deliver high quality mediation to resolve conflict
  • Generates income through grants and funders to support our core costs and our ambitions of a three fold increase in cases in three years.
  • Raises awareness throughout the community through social media, stakeholder management and media campaigns
  • Measure our outcomes, review our performance and adapt to succeed
