Arco is an organisation that believes making music should be a possibility for every child. We provide high quality violin tuition for a low cost. Our aim is to bring joy through music, whilst reaching each child's full musical potential.
We are a fully inclusive organisation. With about 80% of pupils from a BAME background, 60% of pupils living in challenging circumstances and 15% of pupils with SEN/D.
Many children in Islington are keen on learning the violin, but have no access to high quality music education due to a variety of circumstances. Nearly 80% of our families indicated they have not found any similar offers in the area.
Poverty, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities are the challenging circumstances we have most encountered within
Islington’s community in the past year and the numbers below confirm our findings:
38% of children in Islington live in poverty
52.9% of primary school pupils in Islington’s schools are eligible for the deprivation Pupil Premium
18.7% of Islington school pupils have some form of Special Educational Needs
Without Arco, these children will unfortunately not gain access to high quality music education.
At Arco we believe that every child can learn to play the violin, when it's taught with love and dedication.
Parents and caretakers are encouraged to participate in the child's musical development, by attending lessons and/or being the child's practice buddy.
A big part of our repertoire follows the Suzuki method, on top of that we use a variety of others violin methods, as not one method suits all!
Learning in a group is not only more fun than learning one to one, it also has a range of other benefits. From learning ensemble skills to positive communication.
Group learning helps children to strive for their full musical potential, by encouraging others and being inspired by one another.
