Objectives

Frontline staff frequently struggle under the emotional weight of their work.  We provide them with support and in-depth training to understand the complex emotional distress of vulnerable and traumatised clients.

It can be hard to access appropriate psychological expertise. At a time when Covid has brought an increase in trauma, distress and mental illness, and when the NHS is overwhelmed, our services are a lifeline for our members and for their clients.

Activities

APPCIOS was founded by a small group of consultant psychiatrists, psychoanalysts and child psychotherapists with long experience of working in the public sector to support traumatised children and families, and to provide training and consultation to the staff and professionals surrounding them.

  • We offer low-cost, online portfolio-based trainings in psychodynamic practice, leading to accreditation as professional clinicians with the BPC.
  • We provide accreditation for new and established organisations offering in-house psychodynamic trainings.  These include fostering agencies, schools and children's homes
  • We provide continuing professional development to our members through webinars, therapeutic supervision and mentoring.
  • We host an interactive website, PsychodynamicThinking - an on-line community for psychodynamic practitioners - offering free meetings and discussion groups.
  • We plan to expand in order to offer some clinical services directly to the public.
