Geographical remit:

Apex-Works is a registered charity (charity number 518081). We have been changing the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people in Leicester and Leicestershire for 32 years by supporting them into training and jobs. Originally set up to support ex-offenders on release from prison, we now help thousands of different people who face barriers to employment, including people with learning disabilities, people with mental health difficulties, homeless people, lone parents, over 50s and the long term unemployed.

Our mission is to change lives by addressing the barriers that stop vulnerable and marginalised people achieving employment.

Our specially trained advisers give one to one support to service users, we also provide accredited training courses and assist service users in looking for and applying for jobs and prepare them for the world of work.

We have a tried and tested approach of support and challenge that has adapted to meet the changing need of service users and the wider environment over three decades, we are constantly innovating and the trustees approach to reserves means we are sustainable.

Apex works well because:
•  Apex House is a safe and welcoming environment where service users from all backgrounds feel comfortable.
•  We have passionate and professional staff, who offer one to one guidance and advice and volunteers who add value through additional mentoring support.
•  We get to know our service users well so we can tailor our support towards individual needs and abilities

Support- We provide Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) and practical assistance, writing of successful CV and interview practise, presentation and clothing. Through the use of GOALS we track people’s changed attitude and approach to themselves and work. We have a ‘Business the Smart Way’ project for ex- offenders, our Enabled programme which helps people with pan disabilities and their careers, our Green Light project which supports homeless people, and we work with the long term unemployed including over 50’s and lone parents.

Learning- Our courses develop service user’s skills to progress them into work. We do this through the delivery of Functional Skills, Numeracy, Literacy, ESOL, ICT and focused Employability Skills courses, and through the provision of practise labs in Catering, Cleaning, Grounds Maintenance and Administration. We provide a range of commercial training courses for employers focused on Catering, Care and Horticulture.

Jobs- Apex is committed to active employer engagement, recognising this approach as the most effective way to broker and facilitate relationships between service users and employers that result in sustainable job outcomes. We focus on a number of sectors that include; Catering, Cleaning, Administration, Customer Service, Grounds Maintenance, Waste, Care, Retail, Tourism, the Arts and Self-Employment.
