We are a small mental health charity providing support in the community for people aged 8 to 80+. The charity in currently run and managed entirely by volunteers with lived experience or experience as a family member or friend of a loved one with mental health difficulties. We are particularly keen to support people living with a diagnosed mental illness such as Schizophrenia or Bipolar as there is so little community provision outside of Crisis care.
Our centre is open 6 days a week and our service is needed more than ever as the number of people being referred to our Centre is increasing each week. We provide targeted support groups including Hearing Voices and Suicide Bereaved Support, as well as a service for young people and their families and an LGBT group for young people. We are due to relocate to a larger premises and are about to take on our very first employees.
We run a drop in 6 days a week for people to come in for advice, support or to access one of the activities or groups we run each day. Activities include Reiki, Tai Chi, and arts and crafts. We play an active role in the community, working with our local hospital mental health units to support people leaving the wards and we represent people who are living with mental illness on several committees including Tameside Suicide Prevention group, Triangle of Care (Pennine Care) and the Inpatient Forum.
