Objectives

We are Anthony Nolan and we save the lives of people with blood cancer who need a stem cell (or bone marrow) transplant.

We’re a unique team. Thanks to the remarkable donors on our register, our pioneering research and our passionate volunteers and fundraisers, we give the chance of life to three people a day.

But we won’t stop there. We are determined to be there for everyone who needs a transplant; from finding a match, through every step of a patient’s transplant journey. And, together, we can reach the remarkable day when we can save the lives of everyone with blood cancer.

Activities

Find a match

Every 20 minutes, someone in the UK is told they have a blood cancer such as leukaemia. For many, a bone marrow or blood stem cell transplant is their only chance. They need cells from a healthy person – with the same tissue type – to replace and repair their own damaged cells.

About 30% of people in need can find a suitable donor in their family. But the other 70% rely on a stranger to save their lives.

Every time someone comes to us in need of a transplant, we check our register for a match. And we make more than 1,000 matches every year.

Support & information for patients

As well as connecting patients with lifesaving donors, we’re here to direct them to the support and information that they need.

Our Patient Experience team is on hand to support our patients before, during and after their transplant.

Research

We do ground-breaking research to make bone marrow and blood stem cell transplants more successful, giving people longer and better lives.

At the Anthony Nolan Research Institute, we research how we can make the best matches and how to stop problems after transplants.

Raise awareness

We work tirelessly to bring blood cancer and blood disorders to everyone's attention.

Whether it’s influencing the government to advance the best policies or getting our stories in to the press, we make sure our voices are heard.
