Animal Think Tank is building a broad-based social movement for Animal Freedom. To us, Animal Freedom in the UK means ensuring the rights to life, liberty and security of person for all animals are enshrined in law and respected by society. In a similar vein to previous successful social movements, Animal Think Tank acknowledges the importance of building a complete movement ecology: 1) Personal Transformation, 2) Providing Alternatives and 3) Pressuring the government and institutions. While 1) and 2) are well resourced in the UK, 3) has a lot of potential for development. By building a people-powered social movement, we aim to achieve the necessary leverage to effect legislative change in favour of Animal Freedom.
For the last 3 years, Animal Think Tank have been building the organisational foundations to build a social movement. We have learned through experience and research that without organisational foundations, social movements lack the stability to last in the long term. We believe with a planned Strategy, Culture and Governance, Animal Think Tank can successfully seed a successful social movement. Animal Think Tank is currently preparing to launch a Social Movement Organisation and help facilitate its development over time.
