Objectives

Amicus is a small charity that helps provide representation for those facing the death penalty in the United States. We believe the death penalty is disproportionately imposed on the most vulnerable in society, violating their right to due process and equal justice before the law.

We aim to provide better access to justice and to raise awareness of potential abuses of defendants' rights. We are not a campaigning organisation. We believe we can make the greatest difference through frontline work.

Activities

  • Placements: arranging volunteersĀ to support legal teams on the ground in the US.
  • Pro-bono: co-ordinatingĀ 500+ volunteer lawyers from the leading UK law firms to support local teams on the ground, particularly with evidence analysis work.
  • Training: running internationally-recognised bi-annual US death penalty law training, and publishing a field-leading academic journal.
