AST is a charity dedicated to helping people plan ahead for possible incapacity in the future. We raise awareness of the importance of preparing a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) so that people can make informed decisions and plan ahead. These include decisions about who might help them with their finances and their personal welfare, including healthcare and medical treatment. Without an LPA in place, people are at risk of losing control over their finances and personal welfare should incapacity strike. Next of kin do not have an automatic legal right to help those who are incapacitated. Without an LPA it's possible that considerable costs could be incurred and an individual's wishes could be ignored.
Our services are available to everyone on a not for profit basis.
(1) We offer a comprehensive education programme to a wide range of organisations and community groups about the importance of LPAs.
(2) We provide unbiased information about the range of options available to people so that they can make informed decisions.
(3) We are able to offer support to individuals and small groups, enabling them to prepare LPAs themselves if they wish to do so.
(4) For those who need more help, we can prepare LPAs on their behalf, on a not for profit basis.
(5) For those who do not have anyone to act on their behalf, AST has been appointed by the Lord Chancellor to provide support as an Attorney should this be required.
