Objectives

Vision: People of Guinea/West-Africa and UK/Europe exchange and access knowledge and resources/materials to widen their understanding, to improve cooperation and their lives in environmentally sustainable way.

Alanouwaly Salifou Sylla Foundation was formed in the name of the late Guinean musician Salifou Sylla to build community and partnership between people of Guinea/West-Africa and UK/Europe to assist and improve each other’s life through inclusive and respectful exchange of skills, knowledge, music and culture.

We work with our partner group in Guinea to build a learning and community centre to help Guineans with knowledge and resources to improve their lives and to exchange culture, arts and knowledge between the cultures of Africa and Europe. In the UK we organise African drum and dance classes in schools and other community settings, presentations about the issues in Africa and an Annual Community Festival, Salifest. We are furthering the communication, understanding and appreciation between all cultures. We have achieved much with little resources

In Guinea, West-Africa we support our registered partner community group with building and running a Community Centre for Self-help projects.  This includes:

  • Building of Community Centre that is at advance stage of completion.
  • Help with running and documenting projects and Centre
  • Exported a car for local affordable transport and free emergency rides;
  • Food growing,
  • Fund-raised for farm animals,
  • Helped form a jewellery Coop,
  • Installed off-grid solar electricity at the centre to provide the electric power for projects,
  • Collected donations of clothes, shoes, medicines, books, educational materials, tools and more from individuals and companies like Ikea who donated sewing machines & fabrics to train in sewing & increase their earning potential. With this a sewing training project will be started shortly
  • We have collected and sent many computers/IT equipment for Alanouwaly Guinea to run an IT learner/user project.
  • We are promoting sustainable & environmental solutions, and highlight traditional practices already doing this.
  • Plans are made for compost toilets, and we are working with an engineer to realise a clean water project.
