AkomaAsa Arts is a community arts education organisation that offers Western and African diaspora dance forms, music and performing arts training for children and young people (CYP) aged 6- 16+. The academy offers two arts educational programmes: African Diaspora Dance & Music and Performing Arts.
AkomaAsa Arts works with the support of parents, creative individuals, organisations and the voices of our CYP. We engage in the on going work of teaching and learning about African, Caribbean and Western social, cultural and historical connections through collaborative working relationships. Our programmes are tailored to nurture the next generation of creators and performers. In a dynamically vibrant atmosphere, and a caring and safe environment, CYP are supported to engage, inspired to learn and develop the confidence and self-esteem needed to enable them to rise to present-day challenges. CYP are supported to be themselves, empowered through dance, music and performing arts to have fun, and take risks to work towards their aspirations whilst developing transferable skills for life.
Develop diverse, inclusive and quality dance, music and performing arts programmes. Provide a strong, disciplined, solid foundation for developing skilled versatile performing artists. Create pathways and progression routes into education and professional practice. Motivate, inspire learning and change, and empower CYP to be confidently bold in themselves and their aspirations. Offer supportive-safe-spaces that enable CYP to be culturally and socially innovative.
Inspire change, and provide intergenerational opportunities that bring CYP from all different backgrounds together. Work with parents, individuals and organisations and create opportunities that give equal access.
