Objectives

We aim to help older people in Exeter love not fear later life by:

  • connecting them to social activities to combat loneliness and enhance feelings of wellbeing
  • fostering independence within the home and community to avoid where possible residential care
  • establishing projects to engage people in creative activities that benefit both our service users and the wider community.

Activities

We do this by:

  • organising groups for exercise, tea dances, or drop-ins for a cup of tea and a chat
  • a non paid for service to befriend people isolated at home by regular telephone calls or home visits by our volunteers
  • an enabling service where employees visit to provide company and practical help within the home and trips out and about
  • a service to support and provide respite for carers of loved ones suffering from dementia
  • a service to support hospitalised patients  transition back home 
  • an activity group where dementia sufferers and their carers meet for mutual support and to engage in meaningful projects, eg working on our allotment
  • our Men In Sheds project where men in later life meet up to recycle and repair tools and appliances and produce woodwork for sale in our retail shop
