Objectives

We help older people in the local community with a range of services some are free such as Crisis Care, Information & Advice and the IT Centre some have a low cost charge such as Counseling and Nail Cutting. We are vital in the community because we have services that people would not be able to afford privately and we support clients with challenging issues such as Welfare Benefits cuts.

Activities

Our priority is always to ensure we deliver services of high quality to those who really need them. Our focus
on older people enables us to cover a broad spectrum of need as ‘older people’ (as defined by Age UK Brighton and Hove) includes anyone over the age of 50 years. We have clients who manage their own affairs with no problems and just need occasional information or financial products which meet their needs, some
just want to contribute to their local community in a meaningful way. Some of our clients are over 80 years
of age and as such are more likely to have complex needs and multiple medial conditions which impact
on their life daily. 54% of people in Brighton over the age of 65 years are single, widowed, divorced or separated. With over 14,000 people over 65 years living in single person households the problems of social, technological, and financial isolation become central to the health and wellbeing of a large proportion of the population and services like ours are essential to improving wellbeing.
