Established in 1995, ACAP exists to advance the educational welfare and outcomes for disadvantaged people in West Yorkshire. We are a volunteer-led service and provide mentoring and educational support services to young people. We also provide advocacy and support services to parents as well as a range of other services and activities. Look at our website for further info.
Over the years the service has developed to include young people from all sections of the community and not just African and Caribbean young people. Our service is inclusive and we assist all young people to realise their full potential in all areas of their lives.
A team of highly trained volunteers staff our learning centre three times a week and the team includes an MBA qualified manager, a child-care professional and a qualified Social Worker. Collectively, we recruit, train and deploy volunteers (role models) from the local community to mentor disadvantaged young people from Bradford and its surrounding areas. We do not have any paid staff members.
Our current activities involve:
Our projects are based on a life-altering combination of mentoring, education and personal development and enable people to fulfil their potential by enhancing their self-esteem and confidence in order to raise their aspirations and educational attainment levels and thus make significant changes in their lives.
We have a 24+ year history and excellent track record in working with people from very challenging and disadvantaged backgrounds.
