Objectives

Action CP is the only UK charity which campaigns on behalf of the estimated 30,000 children with

cerebral palsy and their families.  Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a lifelong and fluctuating neurological condition which is the most common cause of physical disability in childhood. The condition affects core muscle tone, movement, posture and co-ordination and is caused by abnormal development or damage to the brain before, during or soon after birth.  Children with CP can have a range of issues with communication, cognitive development and learning, hearing and vision, and difficulties with sensory processing. This has a huge impact on how they develop, learn, and interact with the world around them.  We provide a unified voice for cerebral palsy clinical and educational professionals and the parents of children and young people with cerebral palsy to draw together a coherent case for policy makers for improved provisions and pathways of early identification, intervention, education and care for these children and young people.

Activities

The core purpose of Action Cerebral Palsy is to work towards better public and professional awareness and understanding of cerebral palsy and an improved quality of life for all children in the United Kingdom with the condition.  Action CP has sought to establish the facts about the level of provision of care for children with CP through Freedom of Information reports, national surveys and consultation with our community and to communicate the findings and recommendations for change through the APPG on CP and Government consultations and engagement.
