Acorn Community Bank provides affordable loans and secure savings for people who live and work in Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire & Berkshire.
The credit union was originally established in 2005 in Salisbury as a not-for-profit credit union, with a mission to help local people to get on top of their finances. At that time we were called South Wiltshire Credit Union. Since then we have grown to operate throughout Wiltshire and recently merged with a neighbouring credit union to extend our geography to the east.
With a substantial minority of people (around 30-40% of households) unable to borrow from any but payday lenders, we aim to offer affordable loans and secure savings to help people become more financially resilient.
We operate as a credit union: we are a financial cooperative; the organisation is owned and run by its members, members’ interests always come first and members benefit through receiving a share of our annual profit.
