Abbeyfield was established to combat loneliness in older people. We have developed since then to provide residential care and respite care, which is a rapidly growing service helping to rid bed blocking in hospital.
Our aim, whilst supporting our residents, is to promote independence within a community living environment. We have also moved into early stage dementia care with all our accommodation reflecting the latest thinking in the support for those suffering with Dementia. Having recently moved out of sheltered housing provision we are concentrating all our efforts on our two sites in West Kirby and plans are currently being developed for a major extension to the services we provide.
Whilst many older people still live at home with carers coming in, many prefer the advantage of living within a community where regular activities, care and support help them to maintain an independent quality of life for longer than might otherwise be possible. Two of the most given reasons for choosing our home are the friendliness of the staff and the "home from home" atmosphere only possible in an old building.
We provide residential care in our 24 room care home. Plans are being developed to increase this to around 36 rooms improving our viability and allowing us to reach more people.
We provide a high level of personal care from a dedicated team of carers, many of whom have been with us for many years which helps them to build up a strong relationship with our residents. We strongly encourage family members and friends to come into our homes as often and whenever they wish not only to visit their relatives but to join in our many and varied activities.
Our volunteers our life blood and we always welcome new ones. They provide the family environment we strive for and help with the many outings and other events we run. They also maintain a critical eye on what we do and are encouraged to make suggestions on how we can improve. We are rated "Good" by the Care Quality Commission.
We provide extensive and varied activities and entertainments planned by our Activities Coordinator and whilst Covid has restrained these activities we are now gradually getting back to normal.
