Objectives

Abbeyfield Helensburgh Society was inaugurated in 1962 as a place where those in older age  experiencing poverty or social isolation could go for assistance and support. We uphold that ethos to this day.

Abbeyfield Helensburgh Society is based in Barclay-Smith House, where we provide supported living to 8 individuals of a mature age.

We adapt our services to meet our residents varying needs. Aiming to make day to day living worry free and providing 3 meals per day with a varied nutrition balanced menu prepared by our team of cooks.

Our house assistants help with the usual day to day living tasks and take care of the communal areas.

Our small dedicated team are supported by a volunteer committee who over see's the charity.

The service is currently expanding through implementation of a care at home service. Initially this will provide personal assistance support and eventually include personal care. This dual role will be managed by the current service manager and staffed from our in house team.

The committee's role has changed vastly over the last few years and we need more members to take on general and office bearer roles.

Our long standing Chair has decided to step down in July and we are hoping to recruit a committed individual who may consider this role.

Knowledge of the social care sector would be an advantage but level headed common sense is vital.

Activities

We are registered with the Care Inspectorate, a House of Multiple Occupancy and are currently registering staff members with the SSSC where required.

Our residents are involved in decision making and future planning of the service and are encouraged to have their say at the monthly residents meetings.

Our service was reviewed by the Care Inspectorate in 2023 and their report can be accessed via the Care Inspectorate website.
