Objectives

1Voice support young people whose disabilities mean they cannot speak and so must learn to use alternative ways to communicate (e.g. symbols boards, eye-gaze, voice output devices or sign languages). We reduce the social isolation that being unable to speak can bring through providing fun, social opportunities for the young people, their families and supporters. Our community connects people at different stages on their communication journey, positively impacting younger users' motivation to communicate and giving older members positions of responsibility. Parents received very little support to assist their child's communication development, so our community provides valuable peer support.

Activities

We organise social opportunities at which members can connect, have fun, communicate at their own pace and learn from each other. Our five regional branches aim to host 3 or 4 events a year, while national events bring together AAC users and their supporters from further afield. Online events offer further opportunities for connection.
