Adventure Queens is a UK based not-for-profit that aims to smash down the barriers that stop women going on outdoor adventures! We're looking for an experienced Treasurer to join our board.

What will you be doing?

Since Adventure Queens was founded in 2017, we have provided physical and virtual spaces for women to connect, share practical information, tips and advice and support each other to build skills and confidence. Over the last 7 years, the Adventure Queen community has grown to over 15,000 women. In addition to our main virtual community we have 25 regional groups, 1 mum’s group and 3 international groups.

Adventure Queens has three pillars of activity:

  • Our community that brings together women across the country through online fora and almost 150 in-person meet ups per year.
  • Our Adventure Queen Grant, which supports 3 women each year to go on a human-powered, boundary pushing, life changing adventure through cash, kit and mentoring.
  • Our projects that support marginalised groups of women who may face additional barriers to getting outdoors.

We are a passionate and ambitious bunch! We’re currently completely volunteer-run, but have ambitions to hire our first member of staff in the near future to manage the organisation and support our 60+ volunteers. We are also in the process of registering to become a charity as we believe this status best reflects our goals.

We’re recruiting for two experienced trustees, one of which will fill the Treasurer role, to join our board to support our continued organisational development.

As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer maintains an overview of Adventure Queens’ financial affairs. The Treasurer ensures that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and reports to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.

What are we looking for?

What we're looking for:

  • A finance professional. Knowledge of charity finance is an advantage. Otherwise an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience, including with micro and small organisations.
  • Clear communicator with the ability to bring the financial information alive to non-finance specialists.
  • Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting and setting budgets.
  • Enthusiasm for our vision and mission.
  • An ability to think creatively and strategically and exercise good, independent judgement.
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
  • A respect for others and an ability to work well as a team.
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort (including attending quarterly virtual board meetings).

What difference will you make?

The role of Treasurer is a vital role on our board - not only do we need someone to keep us on track in terms of our record keeping and reporting, but more importantly we're looking for someone to help us to formulate our vision for the future. We haven't had a Treasurer position on our board before so you will have the opportunities to shape the role and create new systems and processes to take our organisation to the next level.

Before you apply

Please provide a cover letter detailing your interest in the role and your relevant experience. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal zoom call.

If you have any questions about the role don't hesitate to get in touch.
