The tasks of a trustee include but are not limited to the following:
· Support the UMT chair to manage a safe, effective, and successful sea cadet unit.
· Support the UMT in ensuring all unit activities and matters comply with appropriate regulations and Marine Society and Sea Cadet (MSSC) policies.
· Support the unit’s fundraising efforts to maintain assets/buildings and promote cadet training opportunities.
· Ensuring that all young people and instructors at the unit are engaged in fun and safe activities.
· Attend a regular UMT meeting – usually one hour, monthly or bi-monthly, on a weekday evening.
· Promote trusting and honest organisational reputation by networking positively in all you do.
Previous trustee/governance experience would be a benefit, but having the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people are the most important things! If you think the person specification below sounds like you, then please get in touch:

The Sea Cadet Corps is the UK’s leading maritime charity and provides a head start in life for young people through nautical adventure and fun. Our volunteers work, both directly with young people and behind the scenes, to help make a positive difference to teenagers who are often struggling in today’s world and their communities.
Carlisle Sea Cadets, based on Nicholson Street, Carlisle, is currently looking for enthusiastic and dedicated trustees to join its Unit Management Team (UMT). As a long-established Sea Cadet Unit that has provided life-changing opportunities for many young people. We Currently have over 25 Cadets who come from Carlisle and the surrounding areas.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can provide support with the governance of the Unit. Trustees meet formally about every month. There are free training courses available for you to develop new skills, boost your CV and support you in this role. These tasks can also be divided between volunteers, so why not come along with a friend and share the experience?
