It is envisaged that this will require 4 - 5 hours per month, including attendance at a monthly Board meetings, lasting some 2 hours.

Involves day to day bookkeeping, working with external accountants, preparing monthly and end of year reports, and keeping the Board aware of their financial responsibilities. In addition, the holder is usually a Trustee.

What will you be doing?

Key tasks include:

  • Presenting financial reports to the Board of Trustees
  • Preparing monthly accounts
  • Keeping the Board aware of their financial responsibilities
  • Ensuring that the accounts and financial systems are audited, as required by law
  • Liaising with the Accountants/Auditors to complete end of year accounts
  • Filing annual accounts with the Charity Commission
  • Advising on the financial implications of the Bath Mencap Strategic Plan
  • Participation in regular monthly Board meetings
  • Occasional participation in the weekly/monthly activities of our members (so that all Trustees/Board Members have some first hand experience of working with our members).

What are we looking for?

The preferred candidate will usually, but not necessarily, have a qualification in a financial discipline, but should be aware of the legislation concerning the financial issues surrounding the work of a charity, and have the skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences.

The Treasurer will work closely with the Board of Trustees to achieve the objectives of the Bath Mencap Strategic Plan, thereby helping to deliver high quality services to local people with Learning Disabilities.

All Trustees and Board members are expected to occasionally participate in the weekly/monthly activities of our members, so that they gain some experience of the needs of our members, and are able to make more meaningful contributions to our meetings when discussing the services we should be providing.
