The BeScience STEM Volunteer Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of the BeScience STEM mission by supporting Enterprise and Delivery Volunteers.

What will you be doing?

The BeScience STEM Volunteer Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of the BeScience STEM mission by supporting Enterprise and Delivery Volunteers.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit Enterprise and Delivery Volunteers 
    • Work with the BeScience STEM team to identify the need for volunteers, design the job description for the role(s)
    • Advertise the role(s) on suitable forums
    • Develop an awareness of the Volunteer Value Proposition and use this to attract and retain volunteers
    • Interview and induct volunteer(s)  
  • Coordinate and manage Enterprise and Delivery Volunteers 
    • Working with the Finance and HR Manager, conduct regular one-to-one check-in meetings with all volunteers to support their day-to-day work and welfare
  • Support, train and develop Enterprise and Delivery Volunteers 
    • For Enterprise and Delivery Volunteers, identify training needs and identify and implement affordable training opportunities
  • Build a community of Volunteers
    • Develop BeScience STEM infrastructure to facilitate volunteer peer support 
    • Organise volunteer online and, wherever possible, face to face events and initiatives to provide volunteer development opportunities
  • Facilitate two-way communication with Volunteers and organisation staff
    • Obtain feedback from volunteers to ensure the Volunteer Programme is continuously improved
  • Impact Measurement
    • Work with the BeScience STEM team to monitor and evaluate the impact of volunteer activities on the BeScience STEM mission
  • Develop and implement Volunteer policies and procedures
  • Maintaining accurate records of Volunteer participation

What are we looking for?

  • Essential:
    • Recruitment, induction and training skills
    • Coaching, management and leadership skills
      • Ability to conduct one-to-one check in meetings with volunteers
    • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in volunteer management or community engagement 
    • Volunteer Management or Human Resources experience or  qualification

BeScience STEM relies on volunteers to undertake its activities.  

  • The volunteers that work on the core delivery and organisation of the social enterprise activities such as finance, Human Resources and project management are called Enterprise Volunteers.
  • The volunteers that work project delivery such as Hackathons and socials are called Delivery Volunteers.
