Deadline

28 Feb 2022

We need an experienced Volunteer Manager to take good care of our volunteers and provide stewardship for them in a variety of ways.

What will you be doing?

We're a #SmallButMighty international reforestation charity with one member of staff, a small core team of dedicated volunteers and around 30 occasional, environmentally-minded volunteers.

When the charity first started, it was easy to keep a handle on all the volunteers. Now, we have too many plates spinning in the air and we don't want volunteer stewardship to slip through the cracks.

We need somebody - ideally with volunteer management and development experience - to take the volunteers under their wing and perform a variety of tasks including

*Integrate our old volunteers into our new management system - Team Kinetic
*Co-manage the new volunteer recruitment, procedures and onboarding
*Assisting us with the completion of our volunteer handbook
*Being a point of contact for the volunteers and a liaison between them and our Core Team
*Writing/curating the content for and sending out a monthly volunteer newsletter
*Overseeing volunteer training
*Scrutinising our charity through the eyes of a volunteer, ensuring an enjoyable experience, and reporting on how we can best support and nurture their ongoing development

As we're an environmental and education charity, it would be great if the applicant shared our values and passion for taking care of the environment, but it's not essential.

Ideally, the perfect applicant would have good project management and organisational skills, great communication abilities, be positive, encouraging, have a good imagination, brilliant copy writing abilities, drive and enthusiasm.

Welcoming a Volunteer Manager to our fold who can help move our charity forward is a most exciting prospect.

What are we looking for?

We'd love to hear from you if you're a great people person, digitally literate, familiar with creating newsletters and well organised.

As mentioned before, it would be absolutely marvellous if you shared our passions for the environment, reforestation and women's empowerment - those elements sit at the heart of all we do. It fires our drive to clean the air that blows all over the world via tree planting.

Our Core Team has short, daily scrum meetings and it would be lovely if you could attend at least one a week to share updates and news.

Having a convivial disposition would be great too - we're certainly not a stuffy, boring group, we care about our planet and each other very much.

Any skills you'd like to share from your experience in the charitable sector, would be good to learn more about. A willingness to throw additional ideas into the pot to make our charity shine, are always welcomed. We are all learning as we go and striving for more.

To find out how we roll and to see our positive impact in action, please watch our documentary #TreesAreTheKey narrated by Kate Winslet before applying. You'll see why our drive is so fierce to reforest Kenya and to support the amazing people living on the frontline of climate change, who work so hard to look after the forests.

What difference will you make?

We are only 6 years old and still in relatively early days as a charity.

We're always on the lookout for ways to improve how we deliver our charitable aims: to plant fast growing trees in the tropics, build schools, facilitate education and support a growing women's empowerment movement called the Mothers of the Forest.

With an enthusiastic volunteer in this role, we will up our game. By doing so, it'll have a direct positive impact on our beneficiaries and our planet too; that's a huge bonus for everyone!

With no salary, this has to be a job somebody wants to contribute to freely because they want to mitigate the existential threat of climate chaos.

You will see the benefit of your contribution in everything the charity achieves and through the frequent contact we have with our team in Kenya.

What's in it for the volunteer?

We're a highly motivated, tight-knit team who are incredibly friendly, open to ideas, supportive, passionate about the planet, nurturing, thoughtful, respectful and considerate of each other; we don't do ego here either.

If working with a connected team like this sounds like something you'd like to do, we'd really love to hear from you.
