We host a wide variety of activities across the Wirral Peninsula for those affected by dementia and their carers - all run by volunteers.
We are looking for caring and dedicated volunteers, who can spare us a minimum of a couple of hours of their time each month, supporting one (or more) of our activities. We have a variety of roles available. We are looking for volunteers with social care, helping and/or counselling experience. Ideally volunteers should have good listening skills, with a sociable and friendly outlook and able to chat with our members over a cuppa and signpost to other supportive services and organisations in the area - if needed.
We welcome volunteers with experience in social care, counselling/helping backgrounds and NHS experience. While first hand experience of working with individuals living with dementia is beneficial, it is not a requirement as we can provide comprehensive training and support to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to support our members effectively.
In addition to roles directly involved with our members, such as facilitating activities or providing companionship, we also have a variety of other roles available. These include assisting the charity with its social media content and marketing, also fundraising for the charity. If you have specific skills or interests, we encourage you to discuss them with us during the application process so we can find the best fit for you.
The day-to-day challenges faced by those living with dementia often go unseen by the wider world but can be limiting to normal life. Public reaction to their quirks of behaviour, speech or movement may cause those with dementia to become reclusive and reluctant to share in gatherings, leading to social isolation. The objective of Dementia Together Wirral is to provide relief from the social isolation experienced by those affected by dementia and their carers, living across the Wirral Peninsula. We hold a full calendar of dementia friendly social activities and day trips each month for our members. These activities provide a safe, friendly and supportive community, in which our members can relax and socialise. Not only are new memories made, sometimes old memories are revived, and the connection and friendship with other members and our volunteers is a welcome relief from their social isolation. For the carers, notes are compared and ‘tips or tricks’ and contacts are shared to ease their caring duties for when alone so making life more bearable when coping with those difficult tasks when giving care.
As a volunteer with Dementia Together Wirral, you play a vital role in creating a supportive environment for those living with dementia and their carers. By offering your time and companionship, you can help alleviate the social isolation many of our members experience. Your presence at our memory cafes, music groups, walking groups, and other activities can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by dementia. Your willingness to listen, share stories, and provide a helping hand can bring joy and comfort to our members, and your support can help them feel more connected to their community. Thank you for considering volunteering with Dementia Together Wirral – your contribution will make a real difference.
If you are interested in volunteering with Dementia Together Wirral, we will put you in touch with our Volunteer Coordinator who will arrange a meeting with you discuss more about the next steps in the volunteer application process.
