Our charity has been a boon to Frome, being part of the lively community structure of this community-minded town.
The shed serves individuals who would otherwise be isolated, who can use skills to give purpose and social engagement.
As Treasurer, you would be a Trustee, and advise on planning and expenditure by preparing financial reports from the data we would share, and by attending Trustee meetings, which take place every month, and you would ideally take a full part in the thinking and planning for the Shed.
We are currently developing new structures for finance and member data management, and would love you to engage with us as we forge new ways of doing things that are compatible with our ethos and constitution. The Shed is a democratic group, with the members deciding what they do and how, and the trustees serve this ethos.
Visiting the workshops before they repopen (after Covid) would be useful, as trustees need to understand the implications for health and safety of running a practical space containing tools and machines, and sometimes some rather infirm older people.
We are looking for a volunteer who can work with us online for some of the time, as we collect and upload data, and come to trustee meetings, monthly or maybe alternate months, to advise on the broader financial picture, deliver financial reports.
The Frome Men’s (and now Women’s) Shed has been a flagship charity in the Men’s Shed movement, providing occupation and companionship for a group who are prone to isolation after retirement, redundancy or relocation.
The Men’s Shed has grown in size, recently added a Women’s Shed, and taken on larger premises, at the same time as losing a founder Chairman whose drive and inspiration brought it into existence, and a founder Treasurer who has become too ill to stay on the Committee of Trustees.
With your help we will be able to continue to provide the safe and supportive environment where practical skills are shared and learned, and tasks carried out for the benefit of the wider community.
And ultimately ensure the long-term sustainability of our organisation beyond the challenges presented by Covid-19.
You would become part of our small, friendly team, have the chance to facilitate change, and have the opportunity to keep the Frome Shed making its sold contribution to the life of our town.
