Trustees meet formally for an evening Board Meeting around 8 times a year, plus some ad-hoc meetings and attendance at the annual AGM if possible.

To complement our current skill base, we need a new trustee who has some knowledge / skills with accounts and budgeting, (not necessarily an accountant), to help us in our work supporting learning disabled people in Bury Lancashire.

What will you be doing?

BuryILD (which stands for Bury Independant Living Develpment)  is a supported living scheme that was established in 1964 by family members with the active support to the local authority.  We are an independent non-profit making charity.  BuryILD, through the provision of an individual support service, works to positively endable people with learning disabilities to lead valued and independent lives within their own community.

Our mission statement is 'Supporting adults with learning disabilities to live independently and enjoy fulfilled lives of their choosing'

The person-centred service BuryILD offers can range from providing someone with complex needs 24hr support - to more targeted support for individuals who may have their own individual tenancies or are still living in the family home.

In 2013, BuryILD merged with another local charity 'Contact Community Care'. Contact (now our Contact division - CLD) was set up in 1985 in response to requests from people with learning disabilities for more opportunities to meet up with friends and go out socially in the community.  We offer a range of leisure activities on a fortnightly basis to a large group of local adults with learning disabilities - activities vary widely and are chosen by the members themselves.

We celebrate being a happy, friendly, family focused organisation, run by a small effective staff management team, well supported Trustees.

We have a Trustees recruitment process which allows potential Trustees an opportunity to see us and for us to see them, before any commitment is made.

Trustees do not have to take on any specific responsibilities.

Each year we elect a Chair, Vice Chair and Treasurer.  We also ask any willing Trustees to do some specific jobs, including new Trustee recruitment, or becoming members of fund raising or pay review groups - these change over time to meet current needs.

As at July 2019 , we have 8 Trustees - we aim for no more than 11.

We have a detailed Strategic Action Plan with targets relating to both 'Support / Service' and 'Commercial / Organisational' aspects.

What are we looking for?

At the moment, we would really welcome a person with some knowledge / skills in accounts and budgets, to help overlook all aspects of  financial management, safeguarding the organisation's finances, helping us to ensure that effective financial systems and procedures are established and are in line with 'best practice' and' legal requirements', at all times working with other trustees and BuryILD management.

What difference will you make?

We really welcome applicants who are able to use their knowledge and experience to help lead this well established and well loved organisation.  Without Trustees the charity is unable to function - we need and depend on the generosity of those with relevant experiences and skills to join our team.

New Trustees will be valued and welcomed.

What's in it for the volunteer?

The role although unpaid, is a very fulfilling one which provides an opportunity to make a difference to our supported individuals.  It provides an opportunity to collectively share and experience and expertise with others in a supportive and welcoming and environment.

Our Trustees are valued and respected team members - come join us!
