Do you want to make a difference to the lives of children and their communities who need a little extra help? Join the pioneering new Maritime Children’s Foundation!

What will you be doing?

What is the Maritime Children’s Foundation?

The Maritime Children’s Foundation is a young charity established to provide additional support for the children and families attending Maritime Academy Trust schools. These are in Medway, Kent, Bexley and Greenwich. Initially the focus is on:

  • Support for families with children aged 0-3
  • Creating and running a Maritime Skills Academy
  • Creating Community Hubs in each school

Over time we aim to provide high quality support for every Maritime child in need.

What skills are we looking for?

Business skills - Legal, strategy, finance and marketing/ PR

Charity skills - management and fundraising

Children/ community experience - experience with vulnerable children, local support services and local families

The role will typically involve:

  • Support and provide advice on the Foundation’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
  • Approve operational strategies & policies, and monitor implementation.
  • Oversee the Foundation’s financial plans and budgets; monitor and evaluate progress as well as approve financial statements
  • Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
  • Provide support and challenge to the CEO and executive team

The Trust Board meets 4 times a year, usually in the evening.  In addition, there is an AGM. These meetings are hybrid - online and in person. The need to attend other meetings and events will depend on the specific role of each trustee and the particular projects/initiatives underway at any time.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for up to three new Trustees that bring the following skills:

Business skills - Legal, strategy, finance and marketing/ PR

Charity skills - management and fundraising

Children/ community experience - experience with vulnerable children, local support services (e.g. food bank) and local families

What difference will you make?

Trustees play a vital role in our small, new charity. Help us shape our work as we learn what's working well and what isn't, focusing on our core mission - to ensure every child thrives.

By bringing some of the skills we are looking for, as set out above, you will strengthen our ability to deliver excellent support to our parents and children.

For example, if you have experience in running a charity, your experience will be hugely valuable to the team who haven't run a charity before. Doing all these things for the first time is tricky. By having experience of this on the Trust Board, we will be able to navigate through lots of "firsts" much more efficiently and effectively.

Before you apply

Please apply through Reach in the first instance. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete our additional application form.
