SGTO Management Team can come from anywhere within the UK, but must have the skills we are looking for to enhance our management portfolio. SGTO Board of Trustees, MUST be a resident of Southwark and a member of a Tenant and Resident Association (TRA)
The Board of Trustees manages the operation of the SGTO. They are responsible for agreeing the overall strategy and direction of the organisation. COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of our services in up-keeping community institutions. With an operational budget of upwards of quarter of a million per annum, we are seeking to co-opt additional Board of Trustees.
we are looking to invest this money into meaningful projects and initiatives with an aspiration of securing further funding. We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic board members to help us continue the vital work of SGTO. The role does not require direct involvement in the everyday management operation, rather to concentrate on providing guidance and support to the Manager and staff team on the overall strategic direction and ensuring compliance with all legal and financial matters.
Your skills will be strengthening the Board and will significantly help our charity to reach its goals at a pivotal moment in the history of our organisation. You will be shaping our strategic direction and future development. By joining our team, you will make a real difference to Southwark residents and beyond.

Please be mindful that it is an offence to act as a charity trustee while disqualified unless the charity commission have given you a waiver under section 72(4) of the charities Act 1993.
In addition to the trustee statutory duties, each board member should use their specific skills, knowledge, or experience to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. It is the role of “Trustees “to govern the organisation, by being responsible for ensuring that the aims laid out in the governing document (Memorandum and Articles of Association) are met.
The trustees have, and must accept definitive responsibility for directing the affairs of the Charity, by ensuring that it is solvent, well–run, and that it is delivering the charitable outcomes for the inhabitants of Southwark for which it has been set up.
Being a Company limited by guarantee, the SGTO has no shareholders; instead, it has members who guarantee to pay a stated sum should the organisation become insolvent. Trustees are expected to work together as members of the Board towards:
Developing strategies which address the priorities of the organisation
Manage effective performance of the Boards activities to ensure it achieves its aim.
Ensure the governance arrangements are adhered to.
The board usually holds one meeting per month. These range from 1-2 hours, including preparation. A commitment and availability to attend Board meetings. A commitment to SGTO’s values and aspirations.

• A willingness to gain knowledge of local needs and resources.
• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship.

• Good numeracy skills, to the extent required to understand our accounts.
• Help lead on and monitor budgets.
We are embarking on contract talks with the local authority to secure three years of funding. Your input will be key in securing this funding and shape how we improve the lives of Southwark residents.
We are looking to recruit several trustees. Successful candidates will be helping us in managing the organisation including our budget and fundraising, newspaper publications, social media and website maintenance etc.

Your involvement will help our charity in achieving its goal of supporting Southwark residents, increasing their opportunities, and improving their standard of living.
The person will be integrated into the organisation as SGTO trustee board or SGTO management as specified above, which will make them feel part of the organisation.
It will be an opportunity for them to understand tenants' movement and its components. They will get to meet our members and the board who are our strategic directors.
If they are comfortable with the role, it will give them a sense of achievement in fulfilling the task ahead of them. They will be encouraged to take part in many training that will be available and relevant to the role.
The Southwark Group of Tenants Organisation is a charity and company limited by guarantee, governed by a Board of Trustees elected by the membership. Membership is open to TRAs that are affiliated to the SGTO.
Each of the affiliated TRAs appoints up to three individuals to represent them at SGTO Membership Group. SGTO is one of the last remaining federation that supports and oversees the tenant organisations which forms the structures of many communities across the UK.
