The Carroll Centre serves an area of need in Stanmore, Winchester.  It offers a nursery, soft play area, cafe and food pantry.  We need more trustees to strengthen out trustee team

What will you be doing?

Covid, energy pricing and inflation have all left us significantly worse off. We are now in a recovery period and need to strengthen our finances, promote our services and raise more funding. We also need a trustee experienced in HR. In addition we need trustees who can advise on governance issues. Our board is friendly, inclusive and works very much as a team.

The Board of Trustees meets formally four times a year. There are two sub-committees (finance and fund raising) but ad-hoc working groups are established from time to time to take on short-term projects. There is an AGM. In between Board meetings, more informal meetings are held if business needs require it and all Trustees are invited to these. But there is an understanding that trustees can’t always get to every meeting.

Trustees are also involved in occasional strategic planning sessions with the staff and are invited to attend the charity’s external events, fundraising exercises and volunteer meetings.  New trustees are well-supported and inducted.

What are we looking for?

A trustee who would join our finance sub-commitee should be comfortable with accounts and with overseeing our finances but they don't have to have been an accountant or have professional accounts experience.  A governance trustee would help staff with ensuring we are a well-run charity and fully compliant.  Marketing trustee will ideally be comfortable with all social media and in composing a marketing strategy for us. A fund-raising trustee will have had experience of successful fund-raising.

In general we are looking for positive, enthusiastic and committed trustees who want to make a difference in a deprived area of Winchester.

What difference will you make?

As part of our board you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, as well as help us achieve our purpose to provide education and leisure facilities for the children and adults of Stanmore and surrounding areas.  This is a vital role, helping ensure we can continue our support for families who are being rocked by huge increases in the cost of living.  As a trustee, you will have a real opportunity to offer your unique skill set to help the strategic progression of the charity.

We are seeking a trustee who is knowlegable about charity governance - this ensures we are a well-run charity.

While we have a very good Treasurer trustee we would like to have another trustee with some confidence in interpreting balance sheets, financial results etc.

A trustee with marketing or just promotional experience especially on social media would play a key role in our organisation. Your leadership and commitment will ensure we continue to provide and extend our range of advertising material which will both alert users to the services we provide and encourage donations to our charity.

If you have experience of successful fund-raising we would love to have you on our Board.  Like many charities we struggle to make ends meet and so fund-raising is a major part of our activity.

It would also be great to have a trustee on our board with HR experience.

Potential trustees with skills and experience in other areas are welcome to get in touch.
